Race & Gender Codes
Race
Code | Race | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Black | A person having origins in any black racial groups of Africa. |
2 | White | A person having origins in any of the peoples of Europe, North Africa or the Middle East. |
3 | Black-Hispanic | A person having origins in any black racial groups of Africa AND is of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American or other Spanish culture or origin. |
4 | White-Hispanic | A person having origins in any of the peoples of Europe, North Africa or the Middle East AND is of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American or other Spanish culture or origin. |
5 | American Indian or Alaskan native | A person having origins in any of the original peoples of North America, and who maintains cultural identification through tribal affiliation or community recognition. |
6 | Asian or Pacific Islander | A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, or the Pacific Islands; this area includes, for example, China, India, Japan, Korea, the Philippine Islands, Samoa, etc. |
7 | Unknown | A person whose racial and/or ethnic origin is unknown or one who refuses to disclose his racial and/or ethnic origin. NOTE: 7 - Unknown will not be used if the reporting officer is able to observe the complainant, victim or offender to make a judgment. |
Gender
- Treatment
- If uncertain by which gender individual wishes to be addressed, respectfully ask individual for clarification.
- Treat individuals in manner appropriate to individual’s gender expression (using appropriate pronouns, such as he, she, his, hers, etc)
- Address individual by name based on their gender identity rather than what is on their government-issued identification
- Documentation Classification
- Arrestee
- Government Identification Card available - gender will be classified as it appears on ID
- EXCEPTION
- those who are postoperative gender reassigned
- male-to-female will be processed as a female
- female-to-male will be processed as a male
- Government Identification Card NOT available
- If arrestee states they:
- have male genitalia, the arrestee will be classified as a male
- do not have male genitalia, the arrestee will be classified as a female
