FTO Watch Bids
Directives
- P.D. #01-1318, 21 Nov 2001
Field Training Officer (FTO) watch selections differ from Police Officer (PO)- FTO's cannot be forced on midnights
- FTO Allocations within districts
- (Total # of FTO's) - (# of FTO's requesting 1st Watch) = (FTO's desiring 2nd & 3rd Watch)
(FTO's desiring 2nd & 3rd Watch) / 2 = (# of FTO's on 2nd or 3rd Watch)
Any remaining FTO will be at discretion of District Commander on watch by management.
- This is the BOP Patrol is using. Disregard the two management spots it talks about on midnights. There were a lot less FTOs in 2001. This is how watch bids for FTOs differ from regular POs. Of course you can’t force anyone on midnights. You subtract number of FTOs that want midnights in that district and you divide that number in half. And that is how you figure out how many FTOs on secon and third watch. If there is one extra FTO it is at the district commander discretion whether that extra spot goes to 2nd or third watch. One of the spots on 2nd watch and one on 3rd watch is a management spot not by a percentage like POs.

- This is an option, not a requirement, does not say “must” or “are required”
- Members assigned as field training officers will be allowed to bid within their unit for any watch based on their seniority among the other field training officers in the district and will be assigned to a watch for which they are successful bidders or placed at the discretion of the district commander.
